Reading for a decision
Welche Information brauche ich für meine Entscheidung?
Find the purpose, relevant detail and exception in short everyday texts, then justify a choice.
Read first for the situation: Who is writing, to whom, and why? Then look for the details needed for your decision. Mark negation, deadlines and exceptions such as außer and nur. You do not need to translate every word to find whether an offer fits. Check all conditions together: being open does not mean that every service is available at every time. When two messages disagree, use an explicitly newer correction, keeping details that it does not change. A missing detail remains unknown; ask instead of filling the gap from habit.
Ich suche zuerst den Zweck der Nachricht.
First I look for the purpose of the message.

Geöffnet bis 18 Uhr does not prove you can collect a parcel at 17 Uhr when the notice separately limits collection to 16 Uhr.
Purpose → relevant facts → negation/exception → decision with evidence. Außer = except; spätestens = no later than.
Write two short notices with different opening and service times. Ask a partner which service is possible at a chosen time and require a sentence quoting the relevant information in their own words.
