Use als ob and conditional alternatives without presenting an imagined explanation as established fact.
Als ob introduces an apparent or imagined comparison: Es wirkt auf mich, als ob unsere Rückfragen untergingen. The speaker describes an impression, not proof of someone’s intention. A Konjunktiv II form such as wäre or hätte can mark the hypothetical distance; it does not by itself establish that the comparison is false. In the als-ob clause, the finite verb stands at the end. With als alone, inversion is possible: Es wirkt, als hätten wir keine Rückmeldung erhalten. Keep this perception distinct from a measurable observation such as two unanswered messages. Invite correction: Habe ich etwas übersehen? A hypothetical alternative should name a concrete process, for example a shared response date, not assign an unverified motive.
