Paying together or separately
Zusammen oder getrennt?
Ask for the bill, understand the payment question and say you are paying separately.
Die Rechnung, bitte asks for the bill. Zusammen oder getrennt? asks how the group wants to pay. Wir zahlen getrennt answers separately. In a cash-payment situation, Stimmt so can tell the server to keep the change. Review restaurant requests and present-tense wir forms. In Ordnung means “All right”; it acknowledges the arrangement in the fictional dialogue. A real restaurant may handle separate payment differently.
Zusammen oder getrennt?
Together or separately?
Die Rechnung, bitte.
The bill, please.
Wir zahlen getrennt.
We are paying separately.
Stimmt so.
Keep the change.
Zusammen and getrennt describe how payment happens. With wir use zahlen. The short bill request does not need an added verb to be useful.
A server may ask whether diners are paying together. Separate payment and equal sharing are different ideas; this lesson teaches the wording, not a payment policy.
Use getrennt in this fixed payment question, not getrennte. An ending can occur before a noun in other expressions, so do not generalise that getrennte is always wrong.
Bill: Rechnung. Together: zusammen. Separately: getrennt. No change wanted in this cash context: Stimmt so.
Practise the server and customer roles, keeping the bill request, payment method and change decision distinct.
