Reporting a repair problem
Vermieter und Reparatur
Describe a problem at home, say since when it has existed and ask when someone can come.
Name what is wrong: the heating does not work, the tap drips or the window will not close. Seit gestern adds when the problem began. Können Sie jemanden schicken? asks for someone to be sent; it does not confirm a repair appointment. Review singular present-tense endings and the question Seit wann? (Since when?). Was funktioniert nicht? asks which thing is not working. Answer that first, then give the starting time when asked.
Die Heizung funktioniert nicht.
The heating is not working.
Der Wasserhahn tropft.
The tap is dripping.
Das Fenster geht nicht zu.
The window will not close.
Können Sie jemanden schicken?
Can you send someone?
Seit gestern ist das Problem da.
The problem has been there since yesterday.
Wann kann jemand kommen?
When can someone come?
Choose the problem expression that matches the object. Die Heizung funktioniert nicht describes the heating; Der Wasserhahn tropft describes a dripping tap. In Das Fenster geht nicht zu, keep zu because it gives the meaning close.
A short message can give the problem, a location and its starting time. The lesson questions ask for help or timing; they do not state who is legally responsible or promise when repairs will happen.
Use funktioniert with one Heizung, not funktionieren. For a dripping tap, use tropft; arbeiten is neither the matching form nor the intended action. Do not lose nicht in a problem statement.
Heating: funktioniert nicht. Tap: tropft. Window: geht nicht zu. Since when: seit gestern. Visit time: Wann kann jemand kommen?
Read a fictional repair message aloud. Make sure the listener can tell what is wrong and since when, then ask one of the lesson questions.
