Shift plans and working hours

Schichtplan und Arbeitszeit

Read basic shift information and ask about starting time, breaks and the end of work.

Frühschicht, Spätschicht and Nachtschicht name early, late and night shifts. Pause means break; Beginn and Ende mean start and end. Use frei haben for time off and Wann beginnt meine Schicht? to ask when your shift starts. Review clock times with um and the present forms of haben. The dialogue uses a fictional night shift beginning at 22:00 with a break at 02:00 the next morning; these are example times, not a rule for shift work.

Ich habe Nachtschicht.

I am on the night shift.

Wann beginnt meine Schicht?

When does my shift begin?

Die Pause ist um zwei Uhr.

The break is at two o’clock.

Morgen habe ich frei.

I have tomorrow off.

Ich tausche die Schicht.

I am swapping the shift.

Wann ist Feierabend?

When does the working day end?

Learn habe Nachtschicht and habe frei as two different expressions. In Morgen habe ich frei, the time word comes first and habe stays second. In a question with Wann, put the verb directly after Wann.

A shift plan can show an early, late or night shift and a break time. Ask Wann ist Feierabend? for the end of work. Ich tausche die Schicht describes swapping a shift; it is not itself a request for permission.

Ich takes habe, not hat. In frei haben, write frei without an extra ending. Do not assume um zwei Uhr means afternoon when the schedule is for a night shift.

Shift: Schicht. Break: Pause. Time off: frei. Start: beginnt. End of work: Feierabend. Keep these different parts of the schedule separate.

Explain a fictional day at work in three short statements, then ask one question about the schedule. Use familiar times and the lesson patterns.
