Writing short messages
Kurze Nachrichten schreiben
Write a clear message about a delay or changed plan, request a reply, and close politely.
Keep a short message specific: say what has changed, give a reason if useful, and ask for the next step. Heute and morgen make the timing clear.
Ich komme heute später.
I will arrive later today.
Der Bus hat Verspätung.
The bus is delayed.
Ich kann morgen nicht kommen.
I cannot come tomorrow.
Können wir den Termin verschieben?
Can we reschedule the appointment?
Danke für Ihre Nachricht.
Thank you for your message.
Bitte schreiben Sie mir zurück.
Please write back to me.
Bis morgen.
See you tomorrow.
In Ich komme heute später, komme stays in position two. Ich kann morgen nicht kommen places the second verb at the end. With formal Sie, write Ihre with a capital I.
Tell a colleague you will arrive late because the bus is delayed, or ask to move an appointment you cannot attend.
Heute means today and morgen means tomorrow. Check the day before sending a message so the reader changes the correct plan.
Message order: change of plan → reason or request → closing. Viele Grüße is a common friendly closing.
Write a three-line message saying you cannot come tomorrow and asking to move the appointment.
