Making appointments
Termine machen
Arrange, confirm, and move an appointment, and explain politely if you will be late.
To arrange an appointment, give a day and time and ask whether it suits the other person. “Termin” means an arranged appointment.
Ich habe einen Termin.
I have an appointment.
Ich möchte einen Termin.
I would like an appointment.
Passt Montag um neun Uhr?
Does Monday at nine work?
Ja, das passt.
Yes, that works.
Nein, leider nicht.
No, unfortunately not.
Können wir den Termin verschieben?
Can we move the appointment?
Ich komme zehn Minuten später.
I will arrive ten minutes later.
Vielen Dank. Bis Montag.
Thank you. See you Monday.
Use “Ich möchte einen Termin” to request an appointment, “Passt …?” to propose a time, and “den Termin verschieben” to move it.
You will use these forms at a doctor’s office, an authority, a repair shop, or any scheduled meeting.
Do not confuse “passen” (to suit) with “kosten” (to cost). “Montag passt” says Monday works.
Termin + day + um + time: “Passt Montag um neun Uhr?”
Propose Monday at nine, reject another time politely, and ask to move the appointment.
