Inviting and visiting

Einladen und Besuchen

Invite someone, agree on a time, accept politely, or decline with a clear reason.

An invitation needs a place and time. Use “Möchtest du …?” to invite, “Wann hast du Zeit?” to arrange it, and “Leider kann ich nicht” for a polite refusal.

Möchtest du zu uns kommen?

Would you like to come to our place?

Wann hast du Zeit?

When do you have time?

Am Samstag passt es mir.

Saturday works for me.

Um wie viel Uhr?

At what time?

Ich komme um sieben.

I will come at seven.

Soll ich etwas mitbringen?

Should I bring something?

Danke für die Einladung.

Thank you for the invitation.

Leider kann ich nicht.

Unfortunately, I cannot.

Use “möchtest du” for a friendly invitation, “soll ich” to offer, and time phrases with am/um.

These phrases cover visiting friends without sounding abrupt.

Do not confuse an invitation with an offer to bring something; each question needs its own answer.

Invite → arrange → confirm → thank.

Invite a friend for Saturday, agree on seven o’clock, and ask whether to bring something.
