Finished and not yet finished

fertig und noch nicht

Report whether work is finished, ask what is still missing and say how much more time you need.

Ich bin noch nicht fertig means you are not finished yet. Der Auftrag ist fertig says that the job or order is finished. Was fehlt noch? asks what is still missing. Ich brauche noch fünf Minuten asks for five more minutes by stating the time you need.

Ich bin noch nicht fertig.

I am not finished yet.

Der Auftrag ist fertig.

The job is finished.

Was fehlt noch?

What is still missing?

Ich brauche noch fünf Minuten.

I need five more minutes.

Noch nicht means not yet; removing nicht reverses the status. In a standalone statement keep bin after ich. With der Auftrag use ist, not bin. In noch fünf Minuten, noch means more rather than not yet.

Tell a colleague what is ready and what still needs work. Auftrag can be a job, assignment or customer order depending on context. Do not assume every use means an order for goods.

The standalone statement is Ich bin noch nicht fertig. Do not put bin at the end here. Verb-final order belongs to other sentence structures; learn this short statement first.

Not yet: noch nicht. Still missing: fehlt noch. More time: noch fünf Minuten. These uses of noch are related, but English does not translate all of them with one word.

Report that one job is done, then say that you are not finished with another. Ask what is missing and answer with the time needed. Check the negation and the number five.
