Perfekt with haben and sein
Spoken German often uses Perfekt for completed past events. Conjugate haben or sein in position 2 and put the past participle at the end.
Most verbs, including activities and verbs with a direct object, use haben.
Common verbs of change of place or state such as gehen, fahren, kommen and aufstehen use sein in these meanings.
bleiben also uses sein although it does not describe movement.
Learn each frequent verb with its auxiliary and participle; “all movement uses sein” is not a reliable rule.
Ich habe heute gearbeitet.
Mia ist nach Berlin gefahren.
Wir sind zu Hause geblieben.
