A1 everyday life: putting it together

A1 Alltag: alles zusammen

Combine a greeting, a name and a clear appointment request, and select suitable expressions for other familiar situations.

Combine the short expressions you already know. Choose the expression for the situation: a name, a journey, an appointment or a request. You do not need a long sentence to communicate clearly. Ask someone to repeat when you do not understand. This is a review, not an A1 certificate or placement result. At the fictional reception desk, Wie heißen Sie? asks for your name, and Was möchten Sie? asks what you would like. Review those two questions before the dialogue.

Guten Morgen, ich heiße Marie.

Good morning, my name is Marie.

Ich fahre heute mit dem Bus zur Arbeit.

Today I am taking the bus to work.

Können Sie das bitte wiederholen?

Could you repeat that, please?

Ich möchte einen Termin für Dienstag.

I would like an appointment for Tuesday.

Wie viel kostet das?

How much does that cost?

Entschuldigung, ich brauche Hilfe.

Excuse me, I need help.

Choose your purpose before choosing a sentence. Heiße introduces a name; fahre describes travel; möchte makes a request; brauche expresses a need.

At a reception desk, introduce yourself and ask for an appointment. In a shop, ask the price. These are separate situations: do not force every expression into one conversation.

Use ich heiße, not ich heißt. In Können Sie das bitte wiederholen?, keep the action wiederholen at the end. Arbeiten means work, not repeat.

Name → heiße. Journey → fahre. Appointment → Termin. Price → Wie viel? Help → Hilfe. Not understood → wiederholen?

Choose two everyday situations and say what you need in each. Change the day or your name only when it fits the situation.
