Using sein and haben
sein und haben sicher benutzen
Use forms of sein for states and locations and forms of haben for what someone has.
Learn these irregular forms: ich bin/habe, du bist/hast, er/sie/es ist/hat, wir sind/haben, ihr seid/habt, sie/Sie sind/haben.
Du bist pünktlich.
You are on time.
Er ist zu Hause.
He is at home.
Ich habe Zeit.
I have time.
Sie hat einen Termin.
She has an appointment.
Wir haben eine Frage.
We have a question.
Use sein with an adjective such as müde or pünktlich and with a location such as zu Hause. Use haben with a noun such as Zeit, einen Termin, or eine Frage.
Say how you feel, where someone is, or whether you have time or an appointment.
Müde means tired, so say Ich bin müde. Ich habe müde is not correct. For an appointment, say Sie hat einen Termin.
State: bin müde. Something you have: habe Zeit. Learn each expression as a whole.
