Free time and hobbies
Freizeit und Hobbys
Talk about hobbies, say what you enjoy doing, and make a simple invitation.
Place “gern” with an activity to say that you enjoy doing it: Ich lese gern. Ich gehe gern spazieren.
Ich höre gern Musik.
I like listening to music.
Ich gehe gern spazieren.
I like going for walks.
Ich koche gern.
I like cooking.
Ich sehe gern Filme.
I like watching films.
Was machst du gern?
What do you like doing?
Am Wochenende habe ich Zeit.
I have time at the weekend.
Wollen wir einen Kaffee trinken?
Shall we have a coffee?
The conjugated verb remains in position two; “gern” describes doing the activity with pleasure. Use “Wollen wir …?” for a friendly suggestion.
Use these forms to discuss weekends, find shared interests, and invite someone for coffee or an activity.
Having time is not the same as naming a hobby. “Am Wochenende habe ich Zeit” says you are free, not what you enjoy.
Activity + gern = enjoy the activity: Ich koche gern.
Name three hobbies, ask a friend what they like doing, and invite them for coffee.
