Clothes, colours, and sizes
Kleidung, Farben und Größen
Ask for clothes, colours, sizes, and a fitting room, then say what you will buy.
Combine a clothing item with its colour and size. Use “zu groß/zu klein” when something does not fit and “anprobieren” when asking to try it on.
Ich suche eine Jacke.
I am looking for a jacket.
Haben Sie das in Größe M?
Do you have that in size M?
Die Hose ist zu groß.
The trousers are too big.
Das T-Shirt ist zu klein.
The T-shirt is too small.
Ich möchte die blaue Jacke.
I would like the blue jacket.
Kann ich das anprobieren?
Can I try that on?
Wo ist die Umkleidekabine?
Where is the fitting room?
Ich nehme das.
I will take it.
Use “Ich suche …” for what you are looking for, “Haben Sie das in …?” for size or colour, and “Ich nehme das” to accept an item.
These phrases cover a typical clothes-shop conversation from asking for an item to trying it on and buying it.
“zu groß” means too big, not simply big. The word “zu” signals that the size is unsuitable.
Shop sequence: suchen → Größe/Farbe fragen → anprobieren → nehmen.
Ask for a blue jacket in size M, request the fitting room, and say whether it is too large or small.
