aufstehen, einkaufen, anrufen
aufstehen, einkaufen, anrufen
Build main clauses with common separable verbs and place the separated prefix correctly.
In a main clause, many German verbs split: the conjugated verb stays near the front and the prefix moves to the end.
Ich stehe um sechs Uhr auf.
I get up at six o’clock.
Ich kaufe heute ein.
I am shopping today.
Ich rufe dich an.
I will call you.
Der Bus fährt um acht Uhr ab.
The bus leaves at eight o’clock.
Ich mache die Tür auf.
I open the door.
Mach bitte das Licht aus.
Please switch off the light.
Wann kommst du zurück?
When are you coming back?
Ich komme um fünf Uhr zurück.
I am coming back at five o’clock.
Subject + conjugated verb + details + prefix: Ich stehe um sechs Uhr auf. Ich rufe dich an.
Separable verbs appear constantly in routines, shopping, calls, transport, opening, switching off, and returning.
Keep the correct prefix with its verb. “anrufen” means to call; “aufrufen” has a different meaning.
The prefix waits at the end: stehe … auf, kaufe … ein, rufe … an.
Describe a day using aufstehen, einkaufen, anrufen, and zurückkommen.
