Work and the journey there
Arbeit und Weg
Talk about work, shifts, and travelling by bus, and ask politely for repetition.
Zur Arbeit means to work as a destination: Ich fahre zur Arbeit. Use im for a workplace such as im Lager and mit dem Bus for transport. Ich verstehe nicht and Können Sie das bitte wiederholen? are useful when communication is difficult.
Ich fahre zur Arbeit.
I travel to work.
Ich arbeite im Lager.
I work in a warehouse.
Ich habe Frühschicht.
I have the early shift.
Ich habe Spätschicht.
I have the late shift.
Wo ist die Bushaltestelle?
Where is the bus stop?
Ich fahre mit dem Bus.
I travel by bus.
Ich verstehe nicht.
I do not understand.
Können Sie das bitte wiederholen?
Could you repeat that, please?
Separate destination from transport: zur Arbeit says where you go; mit dem Bus says how. Im Lager says where you work.
Use these phrases on a commute, at a new workplace, or when receiving instructions.
Do not say in Arbeit for travelling to work. Say zur Arbeit. If you did not understand, ask for repetition instead of guessing.
Remember: zur = to the; im = in the; mit dem = by the.
Describe your route and shift, then politely ask a supervisor to repeat one instruction.
