My day

Mein Tag

Talk about a simple daily routine with common verbs and basic German word order.

With ich, many present-tense verbs end in -e: ich arbeite, ich lerne, ich schlafe. The conjugated verb is in position two. A time word may come first: Heute arbeite ich.

Ich stehe auf.

I get up.

Ich frühstücke.

I have breakfast.

Ich arbeite heute.

I work today.

Ich lerne Deutsch.

I am learning German.

Ich esse zu Abend.

I eat dinner.

Ich gehe nach Hause.

I go home.

Ich schlafe.

I sleep.

Heute habe ich frei.

I have the day off today.

Build the statement around the conjugated verb. With aufstehen, stehe is near the start and auf is at the end.

Use these phrases for a workday, class schedule, routine, or day off.

Do not say Ich lernen or Heute ich arbeite. Say Ich lerne and Heute arbeite ich.

Listen for -e in arbeite, lerne, and frühstücke. Remember Ich stehe … auf.

Say five lines about your day, beginning some with Ich and some with Heute.
