Separable verbs in the present tense

Some German verbs split in a main clause. The conjugated verb stem takes position 2 and the stressed prefix goes to the end.

Learn the full infinitive and its prefix together: aufstehen.

Conjugate the stem: ich stehe, du stehst, er steht.

Put the separated prefix at the end: Ich stehe früh auf.

In a yes/no question, the stem comes first and the prefix remains last.
