sein — present tense

sein means ‘to be’ and is a very important irregular verb. Learn its forms individually: ich bin, du bist, er/sie/es ist, wir sind, ihr seid, sie/Sie sind.

sein describes identity and roles: Ich bin Amir. Sie ist Ärztin. Job titles normally have no article after sein.

sein also links the subject to origin, location or state: Wir sind aus Indien. Das Handy ist in der Tasche. Ihr seid müde.

The verb is irregular; you cannot simply attach the usual endings to one stem. Match every form to its subject and learn the full series.
