Imperative: instructions and polite requests

Use the imperative for instructions and requests. German has different forms for du, ihr and formal Sie. Bitte makes a request more polite but does not replace the correct form.

For du, omit du and usually use the verb stem: Komm! Warte!

For ihr, use the normal ihr form without ihr: Kommt! Wartet!

For formal Sie, use infinitive + Sie: Kommen Sie! Warten Sie!

Separable prefixes remain at the end: Ruf mich an! Füllen Sie das Formular aus!

Komm bitte herein!

Wartet bitte hier!

Nehmen Sie bitte Platz!
